FAQs

Can I enter more than 1 composition per entrant?
You may enter two pieces provided one is in the competitive category and one is in the non-competitive category.
Do I need to provide sheet music for my composition?
Yes, if you are entering a competitive class. Sheet music is not needed for non-competitive entrants but would be appreciated.
Top tip - remember to add all your performance details to your sheet music!
Does my sheet music need to be notated and can my teacher help me?
Entrants aged 5 to 11 years can create a graphic score with stickers, drawings or written instructions (there are some examples here). Entrants 12 years and above must provide a notated score, either hand written or using software. Your teacher can help you to create an accurate score.

Do I need to record my own composition?
Yes, every entrant must record a video of themselves playing their own composition.
How much needs to be in shot?
You may make a video showing only your hands and the keyboard if you are not comfortable with a full shot of yourself. Introducing your composition, including your name and the title of your piece, would be appreciated.
Will my performance be adjudicated?
The adjudicators will be focussing on your composition and score. However, an accurate and musical performance will communicate and express your music best so aim for an excellent performance!

Can I compose a duet?
Yes, you may enter a duet in the non-competitive category and record it with your teacher or another pianist.
Can I add another instrument to my composition?
No, this festival is for piano or keyboard only.
I live outside the UK, can I enter the festival?
No, currently the festival is for young pianists who are resident in the UK.
